This policy explains what information Accel Education collects, why we collect it, and how we look after it. Accel Education is a Selective Entry Exam tutoring service operating in Victoria, Australia. Because our students are children, we treat the information we hold about them with particular care.
By enquiring with us, or by using the student portal, you agree to the handling of information described here. If you do not agree, please do not submit an enquiry or use the portal.
Information we collect
When you enquire about a trial
When you request a free trial class, we collect the parent or guardian's name, the student's name, an email address, and optionally a phone number, the student's current year level, and anything you choose to tell us in the message field. We use these details only to contact you about the trial and to arrange it.
When your child is enrolled
Enrolled families receive a one-time signup code to create a student portal account. Through the portal we hold:
- Account details, being the email address and password used to log in. Passwords are stored in hashed form by our authentication provider and are never visible to us.
- Student records, such as the student's name, the subjects they are enrolled in, and which portal features are enabled for them.
- Homework submissions, including photographs or scans of the student's work that are uploaded for marking, and the feedback we return.
- Practice and progress data, such as practice sessions, questions attempted, answers given, and results, so both the student and we can see how they are progressing.
Information collected automatically
We use Vercel Analytics to understand, in aggregate, how the site is used. It does not use cookies and does not build a profile of individual visitors, which is why you will not see a cookie banner. Our hosting provider also keeps standard server logs (for example, IP addresses and request times) for security and reliability.
How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- respond to enquiries and arrange trial classes;
- set up and run student portal accounts;
- mark homework, track progress, and provide teaching and feedback;
- send parents personalised updates on how their child is progressing;
- keep the service secure, and improve how our classes and resources work.
We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Children's privacy
Accel Education is intended to be used by parents and guardians on behalf of their children, or by students with their parent or guardian's knowledge and consent. We rely on the enrolling parent or guardian having authority to provide the student's information to us. If you believe a child's information has been provided to us without the appropriate consent, please contact us and we will remove it.
How we store and protect your information
We keep your information using trusted third-party services that process it on our behalf:
- Supabase hosts our database and stores uploaded homework files and account credentials.
- Resend sends transactional email, such as trial confirmations and parent updates.
- Vercel hosts the website and provides the aggregate, cookieless analytics described above.
These providers may store data on servers outside Australia. We take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access, but no online service can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Who we share it with
We share information only with the service providers listed above, to the extent needed to run Accel Education, and where we are required to by law. We do not share your information with anyone else without your consent.
How long we keep it
We keep enquiry details for as long as needed to follow up, and student information for as long as the student is enrolled and for a reasonable period afterwards. When information is no longer needed, we delete it or remove details that identify you. You can ask us to delete a student account and its associated data at any time.
Your rights
You can ask us to access the personal information we hold about you or your child, to correct it if it is wrong, or to delete it. To make a request, or if you have a concern about how we have handled your information, contact us using the details below and we will respond within a reasonable time.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be communicated to enrolled families directly.
